Hi all,
In this weeks comic Spot's realization might impede the cat's quest for a new TV.
Well It's been tough getting back to work after the amazingly awesome Penny Arcade Expo this year. While I didn't play all that many games this year, mostly the new game from The Behemoth and Shank from Klei Entertainment. I did go to a lot more panels this year since I did so few last year. In all I went to:
The Mega 64 panel, which I was a little late to, but it was awesome.
The Totally Rad Show Podcast taping, which was uh, totally rad. I got yell ka-boom.
The Rooster Teeth panel, which was very funny
The American Griff-ball League of America panel, which was kinda slow but interesting.
The rest of my time went to talking to awesome people and companys about games and not catching the swine flu. Also as usual bought more stuff than I thought I would. I also got some free stuff from Mega 64, Thanks again guys!
The only question I have from all this, The perfect Birthday? Yes, yes it was.

Hi all,
The bus trip continues but how long can Spot in this weeks comic.
Well things sure are hectic around here, with PAX just around the corner I'm trying to finish up on so sketches for some people and with some last minuet changes in plan, make sure every thing is going in the right direction with my group. All and all things are going well, but there have been a few dark clouds floating over through my clear sky's these last few months.
First of which being the passing of my cat Doodles who I based Ketty on. He was 17 which is crazy old for cats and it finally caught up with him last month. He was a great cat and will be missed, but for me a part of him will always live on in panels Kat-Nap.
And then just this last week my Grandpa had a stroke. Thankfully he pulled through but he still has a ways to go in his recovery. My thoughts and prayers go out to him.
Well thats all for now.

Hi all,
Spot finally meets the the dreaded Boose in this weeks comic.
Last time promised a more detailed run down of the Emerald City Comic Con so here it is. I had a blast meeting and talking to fellow comic creators like
Daniel Davis who is super awesome guy who works on the awesome monster commute, I type looking at my clown bite cup sitting on my desk.
Sam Logan creator of the bizarre and funny Sam & Fuzzy, who was in the bathroom the first time I went to his booth but was at his booth the second time and was a very nice guy.
Jerry “Tycho” Holkins and Mike “Gabe” Krahulik the creators of the mega popular Penny Arcade, who signed my Penny Arcade Vol.2 I bought at the con because I forgot my Vol. 1 at home.
Stan Sakai the creator of Usagi Yojimbo, who was a super nice guy and very fun to talk to.
Brandon Jerwa Who signed a copy of Army of Darkness vs. Xena for me
So all and all it was a lot of fun talking shop with some very talented people.
Well thats about all for now.

Hi all,
This weeks comic is a slight intermission between chapters in the Shopping Spree story line. This joke has been swimming around in my head for a long time now, I finally got it to fit in to kat-nap. I was surprised to learn that the “fake” product I made up for the this comic is actually based on real products, sans nano bots.
In other news Kat-Nap is now officially part of the W.A.G.O.N (World Alliance of Geeks Online Network) Webcomic Battle Card Game as part of the Gama Deck. To celebrate I'm going to be running a contest here on the site with the grand prize being the W.A.G.O.N Webcomic battle card game Gama Deck and the five sketches I did for the Kat-Nap cards. All the details will be on the contest page which will be up soon. Also you can pre-order a deck here.

Wild Wave

|
Hi all,
The title of this weeks comic is a lazy pun on the name of a water park up here in Washington state called Wild Waves. They would advertise during kids programing on TV, I'm not even sure if it's still around. Not that this comic has anything to with water amusement, which I'm sure the cats are happy about. Well like the title pun I have been lazy and I'm sorry about that, the 360's siren call was too strong. Also had to rewrite this comic, since I only had this one partly figured out. For some reason this comic was a struggle for me to finish, not sure why though. Oh well it's done now, thats all that matters. Hope you like it.
Also I'm going to the Emerald City Comic Con in Seattle Washington on Saturday only. Like PAX before it I'm just going to be there as a con attendee this year and not at a booth, but I'm still going to give out some Kat-Nap bookmarks. I'm looking forward to meeting fellow web cartoonists like Daniel Davis of Monster Commute and Sam Logan of Sam & Fuzzy two comic that I read and recommend you read too.
Thats all for now.

Hi all,
I recently picked up an Xbox 360 as a reward to myself for getting over 1000 hits for the past few months, which a big thank you goes out to you the reader for that. Well new toys being what they are, I got lax on the comics this month. For that I'm sorry but I'm back on track and starting the next comic which will finish the first chapter of the current story.
During the hiatus I did get my five submissions to the WAGON Webcomic Battle Card Game finished, they should be up on the site soon.
Thanks again for reading and keep checking back here for more adventures with the cats and possibly some contests.

Hi all,
The Shopping Spree Story continues here in part 2 this week.
Just a heads up. There are probably going to be a lot of delays with new storyline comics. Since I don't have a buffer of comics in place and since these storyline comics are more complex then my random jokes. So please be patient and don't give up on the cats cause there are a lot of neat things still to come.

Hi all,
Well the comic I was working on ran a little late so here is the comic I was going to post on Christmas, but check back here for the other comic on Christmas.
It looks like a white Christmas for me this year up here in the old Pacific northwest. It started snowing on Friday and didn't stop till we were snowed in up to our knees. I''m not too fond of snow, it's cold, and I can't really move around in it at all. It is very pretty to look at tho and I couldn't resist having some fun with it, or my characters having some fun with at least.
Wishing all my readers and everyone else Happy Holidays and a Great New Year.

Night owl

12/07/2008
|
|
Hi all,
Well I didn't lie the new comic is here and is on time, I guess. As most of my friends and family know, I'm not really a morning person, not that I'm entirely unpleasant. I'm just more of a night owl.
I just finished reading the Batman graphic novel Hush in the DC absolute series format that a friend gave me. Have to say that it was a great Batman story and a great place to start reading Batman from, as it deals with a lot from Batman's past. But seriously does every D.C. comic writer have to work in a Superman Vs. Batman fight into story arcs, cause its beginning to lose it's novelty for me.
Also got The Real Ghostbusters complete series box set from Time-Life the other week. I haven't had time to watch that much yet, I've only watched the first disc of the 26 disc set. That being said the set is awesome and heavy. The set comes in a box that looks like the fire house that is the base of there operation, with two lenticular animated pictures on it. Inside the box are 5 metal Steelbook cases that each hold five discs (Hence the weight), a booklet with info on each episode and each disc, and a bonus disc in a cardboard sleeve. I wish the extra disc would have had a case too or been in one of the Steelbooks but I can deal with that. The set has a crazy ton of extras from cast and crew interviews, to commentary tracks, to the long lost pilot of the show. So all and all the set is worth the hit to your wallet or you can wait for the individual sets releasing this next year, but you won't get the extra bonus disc, or a box for the series,or Steelbooks for each volume.

Wiki-story

Hi all,
A little back story for this weeks comic. A few years back in frustration I was going to add Kat-Nap to Wikipedia myself. Something that had just premiered on TV a few weeks, at that time, was already added, and I thought “if that's on Wikipedia then Kat-Nap should be too”. Well I signed up for an account and got to the edit page. I was about to get to work on making the page when it hit me, the words from the Wikipedia guidelines. “Do not use Wikipedia to promote yourself, your website, or your organization”. Thats exactly what I would be doing, by making the page my self I would be going against the guidelines that as a member I agreed to. That just felt wrong, now I know there maybe some members out there that would have no problems promoting them selfs, there sites, or just modifying pages as a joke or to spin the info to be more positive to them selfs, there company, there site,or there views. I am not one of them, I have a great deal of respect for the Wikipedia project. We have been given a great tool to help every one who seeks knowledge by working together to find truth. Please use it responsibly.
That got a little heavier then I intended it to.
Well thats my time.

Bell Con Part 2
|
09/03/2008
|
|
Hi all,
Comic 35 is finished. I didn't go into the details for the coloring process, but I used Photoshop, shaded on a layer at 50% opacity and the pen tool, and filled the shapes with black. After that I put the color layer below the shading layer and line art layer. I hope you enjoyed the process for this comic.
Sorry to split this up, but it got late when I was writing the first part of this. So to finish off the people I met at Bell Con list:
Michel Gagné an amazing artist, working on the saga of Rex in the flight anthology, he signed and drew a sketch of Rex in my Flight vol. 4. Check out his work.
Brandon Jerwa (Battlestar Galactica: Season Zero)
Greg Rucka (DC Comics Checkmate)
Neal Bailey He writes for the Superman Home page and some articles in the Smallville Magazine.
I saw the art work of Daniel Crosier, he does some interesting and creapy comic work on wood.
John Lustig, he re-captions and re-colors old romance comics into humor comics at Last Kiss Comics
Dawn Kravagna, creator of Cattle Capers and Winkie and Nibbles on Pun & Oink Graphics Note: both sites don't render right on firefox.
I think I met Maria Masterson, editor of Elizabeth Guizzetti's Famine Lands
Got some info about the non profit Hero Initiative, which helps comic creators with medical expenses and other expenses
also talked to a girl who was promoting a Halloween shop in the local mall called the Spook Shop.
Not sure if I talked to William Johnson, but got his card.
Also not sure if I talked to the creator of Rhapsodies the Comic, But got a card for the comic.
Okay, that about covers the links that I collected. I'll try to read through the comics I got there and give you a quick run down soon.
Well thats more than my time this time.

Bellcon and sketch part 1
|
8/29/2008
|
|
Hi all,
Last week and the weekend was really jumping around here, which is why this weeks comic is the late last week comic. Since I'm late on this one I'm going to try something different with this comic. I am making this a “process week”, in that I am going to show you the steps involved with making this latest comic. So starting today (Monday) with the first step (sketching), continuing on Wensday with the second step (inking), and finishing up on Friday with the last step (coloring). On to step one.
This last weekend was pretty great and nonstop. On Saturday some friends came up from Redmond and we went to Bell-con, put on by Blue Water Productions. I had a lot of fun talking shop with artist, writers, vendors, passing out Kat-Nap bookmarks, buying unique local comic creators, and getting free stuff of course. So for a quick run down part 1.
I talked to:
Jason Janicki (writer) and Leigh Kellogg (artist) from the fantasy web comic Wayfarers Moon
James and Lydia from Inanimate Sloth Bear Press James is the creator of the Anthro comic Swansong and Lydia is the creator of the manga styled Enigma Eve.
Travis Roman Bundy super nice guy and creator of Gods of the New Empire from Thoughtbox Comics.
James Dean Smith Creator of the comic Boris at Oasis Comics.
Darren Davis, Very nice and helpful and President of Blue Water Productions.
Fenmere, the Worm Creator of the comic Harmless Free Radicals.
Jason Metcalf Comic Illustrator.
To be Continued in part two...

I have gotten to really like lolcats (go figure), but when the lolcat meme first started they really annoyed me. The spelling errors really bugged me, which is a funny statement for me to make considering my use of the English language at times. It wasn't till I saw this pic that I started to understand them and got to thinking they were funny, and now the Kat-Nap crew get in on the fun. Enjoy.

Serious Update
|
7/26/08
|
|
Hi all!
Now don't freak out, but there is a new comic up, that's two this month alone. To all those new to kat nap this is a big deal. What has spurred this boost in current content creation you might ask? Well that would be the World Alliance of Geeks Online Network (W.A.G.O.N.) Webcomic Battle Collectible Cardgame or more to the point the possible inclusion of Kat-Nap to future expansions of the game. I love card games so this is awesome, but what's the catch? After contacting them over at W.A.G.O.N I was given some nice feedback and told I would be definitely be considered I just need to update more often. So I look at it as win win for my readers, more comics for you all to read and trading cards of my characters for you to buy. Who knows if I get enough traffic to my site maybe Kat-Nap could get a theme deck. Check out there site here
More big news I got the games page back up with Escape from the House of the Zombie Monkeys. The Java game that inspired this comic.
Lastly I finally saw The Dark Knight a few days ago, and holy hairballs was it fantastic. At about 2 hours and 45 minuets it was almost like two movies but it didn't feel long. Also Heath Ledger's performance as the joker was amazing, it makes me sad that this is Ledger's last movie.
Oh I also saw Wall-E a few weeks ago, it was a great movie which is not surprising from Pixar.
And thats the news

Go No Comic Go!!
|
5/17/2008
|
|
Just thought I would update you all to whats going on at kat-nap.
So I'm currently up to my elbows in code again, working on kat-nap 3.0 web site after learning that I was coding at a 1995 level. Kat-Nap 1.0 was basically held together with chewing gum, string, various chunks of code from various sites, and enough nesting tables to make even a Ikea salesman shudder. With the current 2.0, I still have the tables but they're more under control, but it isn't future proof, heck it's skirting the line of html 4.0 at this moment. So the Internet is evolving to one standard, XHTML, XML, CSS, and because I'm on a small budget, I too must evolve with it. Or at least thats what I'm telling myself.
In the end this is my long worded way of saying there's no new comic yet, but I can confirm to you all that I am more than half way through the inking in flash. (skipped long learning flash story)
Also taking up my time recently, Movies. The two most current, Iron Man and Speed Racer. Iron Man was awesome, one of, if not the best Comic Book based movies. With the good reviews all across the board, complementing this movie any more is like beating a dead horse after every one else has.
On the other end of the review spectrum, was last weekends Speed Racer. The critics came down hard on this kids movie, but I have to say. I loved it. I was never a big fan of Speed Racer, I saw a few episodes on MTV and some of Speed Racer X which re-envisioned the original, so I came into the theater not knowing much. I was a little worried when I saw, while entering the theater, that it's a PG movie and I thought, from the trailer, that I would get annoyed that the CG is bright and that it didn't seem mesh with the live actors. But I ate it up, I felt emotional at the emotional parts, I loved the racing, and I left the theater feeling really good and surprised how much I liked it. I was also surprised by John Goodman's role of Pops. With Pops the Wachowski brothers wrote a character that is everything, that as a child, you believe that your father is, caring, strong, supporting, and come on he used a term “nonjas” from ask a ninja how cool is that. So please just give Speed Racer a chance, and judge for yourself. I just hope that I can get a chance to see both of these great movies again before they leave the theaters and that Indy 4 doesn't suck.
Well thats my time.

based on a year old magazine gimmick. Enjoy.

Happy Holidays and Happy New Year Everybody!!!
I know that I've been M.I.A. For a while now, but all is well now. I'm back up in Washington, it wasn't the best of moving experience but to paraphrase Steven King the past is eaten by little fuzzy monsters so ya can't go back to it. It took a little longer than I thought it would to get set up again, but kat-nap stretches and rolls over into the new year.
Well moving on. (pun intended)
There is a new comic up, My first completely paper free using a tablet. I started it on the 24th of December and had it up on the site by 2:10 A.M. On December 25th. As a present to my observant fans.
As for the guest comics request, the turn out was lack luster, ok it was nonexistent. I would still love to put some guest comics up but this time no due date. If any one is interested please submit guest comics:
to: greg at kat-nap dot com
subject: guest comic
Well I hope you enjoy the new comic in this new year.

Change Places!!

Greetings All.
Well I'm moving, and I don't mean
the site. I'm going back up to
Washington state from New
Mexico where I have been living
since late 2002. I'm a little nervous
but I'm looking forward to it.
prepping for the move has been
taking up my time hence the long
time in between updates, and after I
get there because of the smaller
house I'll have to use my tablet
which I am not proficient with yet,
so comic updates might be slow for
a while.
I would like to put some
guest comic up in the meantime
and if you reading this and have a
comic or are interested in making a
comic for this site then please
contact me at:
greg@kat-nap.com
with the subject "Guest Comic"
by the 6th of July. The comics
submitted will start showing up the
end of July you can still submit
comics up till the 30th. Thanks in
advanced to all participants.
Onto the site news:
First I have a new comic, it's a
quick joke not connected with the
new “shopping spree” story line.
There are two new backgrounds,
there both the same image but one
is animated check then out in the
Download section.
Lastly The S.O.T.O Faq is done for
now, I'll add more to it if there are
more questions about S.O.T.O.
Well there's the news.

The Number 24
|
2/24/2007
|
|
Well it took longer than I thought it would but Kat-Nap.com
Is Back in 2.0 form!!! It's Leaner, Meaner, and missing half
it's stuff (Wait that last one's bad, explain later).
First off the number 24, No I don't mean the number 23.
While working on the newest comic some strange
coincidences around the number 24 happened. First off there
are some jokes in the comic that are inspired by the show 24
that is not so strange. Next after I finished the comic and
was putting it into the site I found out that it is my 24'th
comic that made me laugh. I am 24 Years old and the site
goes online on the 24'th. Strange but nice that I can may
be get some hits because of the timing.
Presonal Blog Rant (you can skip this) :)
So I would guess some of you (the ones who have been to
my site before now) might be wondering why did Kat-Nap
come to a screeching halt back in early 2005 (and for all of
you that are new check the comic archives when there up
to see what I mean). Well a lot of not so pleasant things
happened in 2004 so after one final thing (which I will not
go into) I unknowing went into a little bit of a depression.
Now it wasn't any thing like dropping out all together I
still did some Kat-Nap stuff like make some new comics for
the anime story line (which will be in the first Kat-Nap
Comic Book) I just kinda went into dark and negative haze
inside. Some time later a Nickelodeon cartoon came
out and I freaked out since it seemed very similar to my
comic which I hoped to turn in to a cartoon. So I thought
that I can not compete with Nickelodeon they have staff,
they have money, they have contacts in all media and I am
just one disabled artist who will now be looked at like a
copy cat (unintentional pun) creator of a comic that I have
been working on since middle school. So I really thought
that Kat-Nap was dead, which given where my mind was it
was not good and I hit absolute rock bottom. Well after
some soul searching and the help of my friends and family I
woke up and realized that there is room for two heck look at
Heathcliff and Garfield. I also realized how bad the other
show was and I vowed then and there if I can't be the first
than I will be the best of the two. I also realized that I only
need to impress myself. So my New Comic reflects this
change which is why it is called Death and Rebirth granted
it is a flash back but it uses all that I have learned in
photoshop (thanks Pixel Perfect) and my drawing skills to
set up what will most likely be my largest story yet. Ok
enough of my blogging whining, It's all is better now.
The Site News.
I rebuild the site from the code up, so no more redundant
tables and sloppy code which means it will now longer take
me so long to update my pages. Aside from some wonky
tables every thing is great. Now to the missing bit, well I
was unable to finish some of the pages on time but they will
be up soon.
What's New:
Ok there are some new buttons to the site first is the New
Comic button next to the logo, basically it's just as it
says, it lets you know what is the newest comic along with
it's number and title which are new to my comics. Next are
things like animation and games. Yes there will be flash
animated cartoons and games in the future, In fact I have
an animation I am working on. Also I now I have a Blogg like
section at the top of the news that explains what I am doing
when I am not working on Kat-Nap. It also includes how I
am feeling using my S.O.T.O. Technology. What Is
S.O.T.O.? Well you may notice a strange little onion on my
site, Well that is my S.O.T.O.. S.O.T.O. stands for State Of
The Onion basically it is my emoticon, it shows how I'm
feeling at the update. So Why an onion? Where did the idea
come from? And aren't you just riping off the onion? I will
answer these questions and more in my next update.
Well that is all for now, the order in my personal universe
is restored. SoWelcome to the New and Improved Kat-Nap and
enjoy the first of many new comics to come. Viva Los
Gatos!
